LGBTQIA+ Affirming Therapy in Long Beach
Therapy for queer individuals and couples where you never have to explain or defend who you are or who you love. Just real work on what’s actually going on.
A space where you don’t have to translate yourself
Too many LGBTQIA+ people have had a therapist who meant well but needed to be educated, or who treated their identity as the problem to solve. That’s not what happens here.
In this practice, your identity is a given, not a topic you have to justify. We focus on what brought you in, whether that’s anxiety, a relationship that feels stuck, family stress, or something you haven’t named yet, with an understanding of how being queer in a straight world can shape all of it.
Therapy for queer couples
Queer couples are a big part of my practice. Using the Gottman Method, I help partners break the fights that keep repeating, rebuild trust and closeness, and communicate in ways that actually land.
I also pay attention to what queer relationships often carry that others don’t: navigating family acceptance (or the lack of it), different stages of being out, minority stress, building a relationship without a roadmap that fits, and questions about relationship structure.
- Recurring conflict and communication breakdowns
- Rebuilding trust after betrayal
- Feeling disconnected or more like roommates
- Premarital and commitment counseling
- Polyamory and ethical non-monogamy
- Parenting, family planning, and blended families
Support for LGBTQIA+ individuals
- Anxiety, depression, and burnout
- Coming out, at any age or stage
- Exploring identity and what feels true for you
- Family rejection, religious trauma, and chosen family
- Shame, self-esteem, and people-pleasing
- Dating, relationships, and life transitions
My approach is direct, warm, and practical. Most clients reach their goals in 8 to 10 sessions, and I’ll be honest with you about what I see along the way.
Common questions
Are you LGBTQIA+ affirming?
Yes. This is an affirming practice. You won’t have to educate me about your identity, justify your relationship, or wonder whether you’ll be judged. You can show up as exactly who you are.
Do you work with queer couples?
Yes, a lot. Queer couples are a big part of my practice. I use the Gottman Method, which is backed by research that includes same-sex couples, and I pay attention to the pressures your relationship faces that straight couples often don’t.
Do you work with polyamorous or non-monogamous relationships?
Yes. I work with all relationship structures, including polyamory and ethical non-monogamy, without judgment.
Can we do sessions online?
Yes. Sessions are available online anywhere in California, plus walk-and-talk sessions in Long Beach.
How do I get started?
