Meet Michelle Taylor, LPCC

Real conversations. Meaningful change. A little humor along the way.

Michelle Taylor isn’t the kind of therapist who simply nods, asks how that makes you feel, and sends you on your way.

She’s the kind who helps you understand why you feel the way you do, where those patterns began, and what it might take to finally change them.

As a Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor and founder of Perfectly Imperfectly Counseling, Michelle brings together clinical expertise, years of experience in education and leadership, genuine compassion, and a refreshingly direct approach to therapy.

She believes that understanding ourselves is one of the most powerful things we can do, but insight alone isn’t always enough. Real change happens when we begin challenging the beliefs, behaviors, and relationship patterns that have kept us stuck. Sometimes that means having conversations that are uncomfortable, vulnerable, unexpectedly funny, and ultimately transformative.

Understanding the patterns that shape us

Many of the behaviors that once helped us survive can eventually become the very things that keep us from thriving.

Whether you’re navigating anxiety, depression, relationship difficulties, unresolved childhood experiences, or major life transitions, Michelle helps you look beyond the surface of what’s happening to understand the deeper patterns underneath.

Her work draws from cognitive behavioral therapy, Gottman Method training, and principles of vulnerability, self-compassion, and emotional awareness. She helps clients explore how early experiences, attachment patterns, protective behaviors, and deeply held beliefs influence their relationships with themselves and others.

Michelle doesn’t believe in blaming the past for everything. She believes in understanding it well enough that it no longer has to dictate the future.

Her style is collaborative, insightful, practical, and occasionally sprinkled with sarcasm. She isn’t afraid to ask difficult questions, challenge an unhelpful narrative, or point out the contradiction between what someone says they want and what their behaviors are creating. But she does so with compassion, curiosity, and the understanding that change is rarely a straight line.

Relationships are where our patterns show up

One of Michelle’s passions is helping individuals and couples understand the dynamics that keep them feeling disconnected, misunderstood, or stuck in the same arguments.

With training in the Gottman Method, she helps couples recognize destructive communication patterns, rebuild emotional connection, strengthen friendship, and develop the skills for healthier relationships. She believes relationships can be some of our greatest opportunities for growth, if we’re willing to examine the roles we play in them.

“If you don’t fix it in this relationship, you’ll carry it into the next.”

Her goal isn’t to decide who’s right or wrong. It’s to help people recognize the cycles they’re caught in, take responsibility for their contributions, and create relationships built on greater honesty, respect, emotional safety, and connection.

A different kind of therapeutic experience

Before becoming a therapist, Michelle spent 15 years in education as a teacher, coach, and student life director. That background still shapes her work: she knows how to explain complicated psychological concepts in ways that make sense, translate insight into action, and help people recognize strengths they may have overlooked.

  • Master of Science in Mental Health Counseling
  • Bachelor of Arts in Spanish

Her sessions aren’t about achieving perfection. They’re about developing awareness, building emotional flexibility, taking meaningful action, and learning to treat yourself with greater honesty and compassion.

She may suggest exercises, reflections, or practical strategies between sessions. And if you don’t do them? That’s useful information, too. As Michelle likes to say, there’s no shame in unfinished homework. Sometimes understanding why something didn’t happen is just as valuable as completing it.

Beyond the therapy room

Michelle’s curiosity about people and the world extends well beyond her practice. An avid traveler, she has lived in Spain, Costa Rica, Peru, Chile, and Mexico, experiences that shaped her appreciation for different cultures, perspectives, and ways of understanding the human experience.

She’s also a lifelong athlete who loves sports, pickleball, staying active, and the occasional healthy dose of competition. At home, she values time with her partner, family, and dogs, along with humor, authenticity, and meaningful conversation.

Her own experiences have reinforced something she brings into her work every day: people are complicated, growth can be messy, and strength doesn’t always look the way we expect.

Sometimes strength is setting a boundary. Sometimes it’s admitting you’re wrong. Sometimes it’s allowing yourself to feel something you’ve spent years trying to avoid. And sometimes it’s finally realizing that you don’t have to keep being the person you needed to become just to survive.

Perfectly Imperfectly

Michelle founded Perfectly Imperfectly Counseling around the belief that we don’t need to become flawless versions of ourselves to build fulfilling lives and relationships. We need curiosity, accountability, compassion, and the willingness to examine what isn’t working.

You don’t have to be perfect to grow. You just have to be willing to get honest with yourself.

If you’re looking for a therapist who will listen deeply, challenge you thoughtfully, laugh with you when appropriate, and help you move from understanding your struggles to making meaningful changes, Michelle may be the right fit.
